Hola, I’m Gloria — the cook, writer, and foodie behind Grub and Glory!

I grew up in Brownsville, Texas, which shares its border with Mexico, specifically the northern state of Tamaulipas. Growing up along the border, I grew up eating authentic Mexican food as the culture and cuisine were woven into everyday life. Whether it was Mami’s meals after school or abuelita’s homemade tamales at Christmas, Mexican food was how we connected and showed love to each other.

When I moved away to study Advertising at The University of Texas at Austin, I quickly realized how hard it was to find authentic Mexican food. So I did what any homesick daughter would do and called my mom. A lot! Those phone calls turned into recipes, those recipes turned into experiments in my kitchen, and eventually Grub and Glory was born.

What You’ll Find Here

Over the past 10+ years of cooking, I’ve built up a collection of recipes for my favorite childhood meals. Everything I share here has been tested and tweaked until it tastes just right: the way I remember it, or better… and with actual measurements because you know our ancestors just eyeball everything when it comes to cooking.

Whether you’re also looking to recreate the flavors of your childhood, or you’re brand new to Mexican cooking, you’re in the right place. My recipes are written to be approachable for beginners without sacrificing the bold and authentic flavors that make Mexican food so special. And if you’re looking to impress, I’ve got that too with some more advanced recipes.

From everyday meals to abuelita’s homemade tamales at Christmas, authentic Mexican food wasn’t just something we ate; it was how we celebrated, connected, and showed love.

Why Mexican Food?

Mexican cuisine is one of the most diverse in the world. In fact, did you know it’s a UNESCO-recognized cuisine? From rich, complex moles to bright, fresh salsas, there’s always something new to discover, and I look forward to sharing those discoveries with you!

which is something I learned when I went away for college and was exposed to my friends’ own favorite childhood recipes from different parts of Mexico.

Let’s Cook!

Growing up on the border gave me a deep appreciation for the real thing, but going away for college also exposed me to my friends’ own favorite recipes from different regions of Mexico. Through Grub and Glory, I hope to share my favorite Mexican recipes, as well as dishes inspired by my travels abroad.

¡Provecho!
